A summer garden concept was outlined for summer 2022, a place where people could relax, enjoy a picnic, and there was some enlivenment for families. The brief was to have this in situ throughout the main school summer holiday period.
‘Summer in The Yards’ grew out of the brief, a 15m by 6m installation with live planting, an archway, and seating. Working with businesses in the shopping centre, the wider town, and selected partners, people enjoyed crafts, face painting, magic and other entertainment, a food and drink pop-up, sampling, and ‘Tales in The Yards’ where local authors read stories to the little ones and, with props, brought their books to life.
Helped by the weather, this was a popular venue which led to it being extended into September. There was some amazing feedback and photos on social media and reports of drinks ‘flying off the shelves’ after having been sampled. Website visitors peaked the day after the garden opened and on the first entertainment ‘Saturday’, with the event page seeing over 24,000 views over the duration and the summer garden digital marketing creating over 1 million impressions and 30,000 clicks.
