The Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) was asked to manage and co-ordinated a government-funded initiative to create a new website that would be a digital representation of the “Great British High Street” - aggregating social media content provided by businesses, town & city centres, along with the ATCM and the general public, to portray a positive message about what is currently happening on High Streets throughout the UK.
Within six weeks of being commissioned we had designed, built and launched a dynamic fully responsive website with custom animated illustrations. We combined this with an innovative social media approach, which pulled together social media channels from towns and cities all around the country - into what we call a ‘Digital Hub’.
We followed the launch of the site with a development of the High Street of the Year Awards to highlight, and reward, the nation’s leading high streets and local communities.
The project has been deemed a great success by all the parties involved, with fresh content has been posted on the site every day, since its launch – captured from towns, cities, DCLG and the Minister for High Streets.
The High Street of the Year competition has been extremely successful with increasing government targets smashed 3 years in a row; the latest competition saw over 400 entries and received over 500,000 votes through the site in the public vote.
The site has also seen great success on social media with re-tweets by multiple high profile figures and organisations including: Number 10 Downing Street, the Cabinet Office and Stephen Fry.
